Also consider a 17+ 09 unless you PLAN on doing suspension and ecu mods to the first gen. TL;DR 07 if you only do city, mt-09 if you like a properly fast bike. With only one year of experience, check what the insurance is on both before buying one. Bike insurance gets way more expensive for new riders after 600ccs.

Where as the 09 would be in a lower RPM and has a higher top speed(the 09 may have better longevity for that reason). But, I love the idea of the MT-07 being more nimble, every video/article I have watched/read, speaks about how the MT-07 is an awesomely nimble and fun every day bike.
